Durbanville was one of the oldest municipalities in the Western Cape, in the 18th century. The original Pampoenkraal outspan was a meeting place for local farmers and the last outspan for the farmers coming From the inland via Roodezand to Cape Town. It was renamed after Sir Benjamin D'urban, Cape Governor from 1834 -1838.

The Durbanville wine valley lies nestled in the first valley from the Cape, just twenty minutes drive from Cape Town. One of Cape Town's closely guarded secrets, Durbanville Wine Valley is home to some of the most colourful and respected award winning wine cellars in the country. Primarily and historically a grape producing area, there are six active wine making cellars in the region.

The Rust-en-Vrede Cultural Centre consists of an old Cape Dutch complex, dating back to 1850, set in a beautiful landscaped garden. It originally served as a prison, Drostdy (magistrate's court) school, and ultimately, a private residence.

Onze Molen, along with Rust-en-Vrede Cultural Centre, are both national monuments and the mill, used as a windmill until the early 20th century is one of the only two remaining towermills in the Western Cape.
